Lake Baldeney is one of the most famous local recreation areas in Essen. Nestled between wooded hills and historic sites, it shapes the south of the city. Lake Baldeney was created in the 1930s as a reservoir for the Ruhr and is now a central part of the leisure landscape in the Ruhr area.
